What is a Microinverter?

A microinverter is a type of inverter that transforms direct current to alternating current electricity on a per-solar panel basis. As opposed to string inverters which connect to multiple panels in a series, microinverters allow for individualized panel optimization and monitoring.

Microinverters are best for systems that are partially shaded. They will ensure your system is producing the maximum amount of energy possible at all times.

But highest efficiency can come at a cost. Typically microinverters are more expensive than string inverters as they’re newer technology and offer more versatility with system design.
