What is Net Metering?

Net metering allows you to receive credits for the excess electricity your solar system generates that have been feed it back into the grid over a set period of time.

Net metering requires a bidirectional meter to be installed on the property so that a measurement of consumed and produced energy can be read. Whether the net value is positive or negative will determine if you’re credited for your energy or if you owe the utility company.

This procedure is responsible for many solar owners’ zero-dollar monthly electric bills as extra sunny months build up credits that can be utilized over time and cover some periods of low-production.

How Do I Start Net Metering?

The first step is to apply to the net metering program. At Isaksen Solar, we will take care of this for you, just let us know whether you’re interested. The next step is to get your solar system installed and to upgrade to a bidirectional meter if you don’t already have one.
